Hygiene: One should be clean prior to practice session and have on a clean uniform and gear. Wrestling shoes are to be worn only for practice on the mat. Use soap and shampoo
after every practice. Notify your parent and coach of any fungus, lesion or other suspected communicable disease.
Practice: We practice to improve and get better at wrestling. The adage, “Practice makes perfect…” should be fully understood and followed. Whether you are a beginner, a high schooler, college athlete, or even a world-class athlete or Olympian you must continuously practice all moves. This includes basic moves, motion drills as well as more advanced moves. Once the basic moves and motions are learned, then the more advanced moves should be learned and mastered.
You learn a move by listening, watching, and practicing the move. First the move is explained and then demonstrated. Next, the move is practiced, sometimes with a partner
and sometimes without a partner. Finally, by trying the move in a wrestling match with a fully active partner one can truly see if the move has been learned and mastered.
The only way to get better and improve your moves is by practicing and drilling the move. By repeating the move again and again your body becomes aware of the necessary speed,
balance and position. By listening to the coach and correcting any error then the move can be mastered.
